Manage Labels

Selecting Labels from the Components menu in the Administration panel will take you to the Manage Labels interface.

The Manage Labels screen is the main interface for managing and manipulating your site's Labels. The interface will display all of the Labels that have been created, including the title of the Label, the number of items that the Label has been applied to, the published state, the relative ordering, the access control state, the name of the person who created the Label, the date of creation, and the number of times the Label has been viewed. To speed up navigation and searching, the Manage Labels screen offers two filtering options: search and published state. The search option will return a list of items with titles that match the entered phrase. Filtering by state will return results of the specified published state.

Important Messages

In the event that Labels needs attention because of an upgrade or a configuration problem, a message will appear just below the toolbars.

Types of Messages:

JXtended Libraries Unavailable: In the event that the JXtended Libraries are either missing or disabled, an error message will be displayed asking you to either install or enable the libraries.

Database Upgrade Required: After upgrading Labels to a newer release, a database upgrade is sometimes required. If an upgrade is required, a message will be displayed asking you to process the database upgrades. Follow the link provided to proceed ahead.

Using the Interface

An administrator can perform seven main actions within the Manage Labels screen:

Publish Labels: For an item to be visible to site users, it must be published in the database. To publish Labels, select the checkbox next to the Label(s) you would like to publish, and then click the Publish button. You can also click on the red X icon next to the title of the Label.

Unpublish Labels: Unpublishing Labels prevent them from being displayed to site users. To unpublish Labels, select the checkbox next to the Label(s) you would like to hide and then press the Unpublish button. You can also click on the green checkmark icon next to the title of the Label.

Create a Label: To create a new Label, click on the New button.

Edit a Label: To edit a Label, select the checkbox next to the Label you would like to change and then press the Edit button, or simply click on the title of the Label.

Trash Labels: To remove Labels from the system, select the checkboxes next to the Labels to be removed and then press the trash button in the toolbar. This will put the selected Labels in a trashed state that will hide them from site users without deleting them from the database. To permanently delete the Labels from the system, select "Trashed Only" from the published state filter drop down. Once the page has reloaded, you will see only trashed Labels, and the Trash button in the toolbar will now be a Delete button. Select the Labels you want to permanently delete from the system, and press the Delete button. The Delete button will ask you to confirm that you want to permanently delete the Labels. Select "OK" to delete them, or "Cancel" to stop the operation.

Configure Labels: To configure the default settings for Labels, click on the Options button in the toolbar.

Get Help: To get help with Labels, click on the Help button in the toolbar. This will open a new browser window for the Labels Documentation at JXtended.com
