Managing Indexed Content

The Indexed Content view displays a list of items that have been Indexed by one or more of the Search Adapters.

The list shows the title of the content item, it's published state, the type of content it is, the raw URL for the item and the date the item was last indexed. To speed up navigation and searching, the Indexed Content view offers three filter options: search, type, and state. The search phrase will return a list of items with titles that match the entered phrase. Filtering by type will return a list of items of the specific content type. Lastly, filtering by state will return results of the specified published state.

An administrator can perform three main actions within the Indexed Content view:

  • Publish Items: For an item to appear in a user's search results, it must be published in the database. Finder maintains published states separately from the actual content because an administrator may want a piece of content to be published and available to Web site users but not show up in search results. To Publish content items, select the checkbox next to the items and then press the Publish button or click on the red X icon next to the title of the content item..
  • Unpublish Items: Unpublishing items prevent them from being displayed in search results. To Unpublish content items, select the checkbox next to the items and then press the Unpublish button or click on the green checkmark icon next to the title of the content item.
  • Delete Items: Deleting items will remove them completely from the Finder database. This will cause the items to be unavailable for searching until they are indexed again. Finder does not maintain a list of deleted items so if you delete some items from the database and then run a batch index process using the Search Adapter of that type, the items will be added back into the database. Because of this behavior, it is best to unpublish items that you do not want to display in search results. To delete content items, select the checkbox next to the items and then press the Delete button.
