Installing and Upgrading Comments
Extensions in Joomla are installed using the Joomla Administrator. For more general information of installing extensions, see:
Before You Start
Before installing, upgrading or uninstalling any extensions, it is always a good idea to take a full backup of your site's files and data. Refer to your hosting service for how to do this.
If possible, it is good practice to make changes to extensions on a test copy of your site prior to making changes on your live site.
The installation, upgrade or uninstall processes in Joomla! do not have built-in roll-back support. It is your responsibility to ensure you can recover from any failure caused by changes to your site.
Installing for the First Time
Download the Comments package from this site (use the My Downloads link at the bottom of page). This package contains all of the extensions required for comments, including components, modules, plugins and language files. They are all installed in the one operation.
Install the package file in the normal way.
When the installation process is finished, a list of all the extensions that were installed will be displayed.
The JXtended Libraries
Comments requires additional support from the JXtended Libraries (used by most of our products). You must install the JXtended Libraries Plugin and then publish it.
If you forget to install the libraries and try to use Comments in the Administrator, a warning will display. If you have install the libraries and forgot to publish it, simply click Enable the Plugin in the warning message. The message will then close and you will be able to use Comments successfully.
If you have already installed the libraries, and it is out of date a warning will display. If this occurs, download the latest version of the JXtended Libraries plugin, uninstall the existing plugin, and then install the new one. Then, go to the plugins manager and publish the plugin.
Upgrading Comments
Upgrading Comments is simple. Download the new package from this site when it is released.
Install the package again as if you were installing it for the first time. Do not uninstall Comments as this will delete all your data.
Now go to the Comments Dashboard.
A message may display indicating that database upgrades are required. Click this link.
The next page will show a list of upgrades that are required to bring your database up to date. If there is more than one click them in order.
When you have finished Comments should tell you the database is now up to date. Return to the Dashboard and you will see a log of the upgrades.
Uninstalling Comments
To uninstall Comments, you only need to uninstall the Comment Component. This will automatically uninstall the other modules and plugins that were originally installed in one simple step.
PLEASE NOTE: All your comments data will be deleted when you uninstall Comments.
If you want to keep your data for future use, you must back it up. Refer to your hosting service for ways to backup your data.
Questions About Installing and Upgrading
The does the graph not display properly when I install Comments?
When you install comments for the first time, there is no data to process. As comments are posted, the graph will display correctly.
Joomla says the installation succeeded but there was an error installing module or plugin language files.
If you have removed the frontend default language folder (/language/en-GB/), this extension will not install.
