About Control Objects
Objects used to define types of Permissions, Users and Items.
An individual extension will generally need to create a objects for Permissions and Items. Joomla already handles all of the User Objects and these should not be altered without an advanced understanding of the Joomla Access Control System.
Objects List
The Object List shows a list of all the created Object for each type: Permissions, Users and Items. To see the different Objects for each type, select a different option from the Type drop-down list. For clarity, the phpGACL terminology is also shown in the drop-down (Permissions are ACO's, Users are ARO's and Items are AXO's).
You may further filter the list based on the Section that each Object has been assigned to.
Adding or Editing Objects
To add a new Section, click the New icon in the Toolbar. To edit an existing Section, either click the linked title in the list, or check a box and click Edit in the Toolbar.
There are four fields which you can assign values to:
Section
You need to choose from this list which type of object you are specifying: Permission, User or Item.
Name
This is just a name that you give to the object. It is the one that is displayed in lists and can be as long or as short as you feel appropriate. You are generally free to change the name of a section at any time.
Value
The value is used within the system as a fixed reference to the object. Once created and put into use, you should not change the value of an object. You may generally change the name, but changing the value may have dire consequences.
Ordering
The ordering is simply a value that allows you to alter the order in which the type of objects are displayed. Ordering does not need to be sequential and multiple objects can have the same ordering value.
When you have entered the appropriate values for your Object, click Save in the Toolbar. Click Cancel to abandon your changes. Click Save & New to save the object and move on to create a new object without going back to the list. Click Apply to save your work and keep editing.
Group Assignments
When you edit User Objects and Item Objects you as also presented with a list of the respective groups that you can place the object in.
User Groups
Users Object can be assigned to User Groups. Control does not allow you to remove a user from default User Group that Joomla has assigned them to. However, it does allow you to assign a user to other groups.
Item Groups
Item Objects can only be assigned to Item groups.
