About Control Sections

Sections are ways of grouping related Permissions, Users, Items and Rules.

An individual extension will generally need to create a Section for Permissions and Rules, and optionally for Items (if they are supported).

You will probably never have to create new Sections for Users.

Sections List

The Sections List shows a list of all the created Sections for each type (Permissions, Users, Items or Rules). To see the different Sections for each type, select a different option from the Type drop-down list. For clarity, the phpGACL terminology is also shown in the drop-down (Permissions are ACO's, Users are ARO's, Items are AXO's and Rules are ACL's).

Adding or Editing Sections

To add a new Section, click the New icon in the Toolbar. To edit an existing Section, either click the linked title in the list, or check a box and click Edit in the Toolbar.

There are three fields which you can assign values to:

Name

This is just a name that you give to the section. It is the one that is displayed in lists and can be as long or as short as you feel appropriate. You are generally free to change the name of a section at any time.

Value

The value is used within the system as a fixed reference to the section. Once created and put into use, you should not change the value of a section. You may generally change the name, but changing the value may have dire consequenses.

Ordering

The ordering is simply a value that allows you to alter the order in which the type of sections are displayed. Ordering does not need to be sequential and multiple sections can have the same ordering value.

When you have entered the appropriate values for your Section click Save in the Toolbar. Click Cancel to abandon your changes. Click Save & New to save the section and move on to create a new section without going back to the list. Click Apply to save your work and keep editing.
