Organizing Content

The Internet is about information - organizing it, storing it, finding it, displaying it. Many Web sites need to go beyond just being informative - they need to present and categorize information in ways that allow your audience to find it. Because of the diverse nature of information itself, these systems need to be flexible - they need to be able to handle the different ways that information is described for different purposes.

We have developed a number of extensions that help help you organize content.

Catalog is, as its name suggests, a tool for cataloging and organizing your data. The basic catalog item is a general all-rounder in itself - supporting basic E-commerce variables, mapping abilities, and assignments within a category tree. It also has a power class system that allows you to extend items through custom fields to suit your needs. You aren't limited to just one set - you can define any number of classes.

Ever seen those sites where it's obvious the data has been hand entered, and there are two or three different spellings of what should be the same word? Well, with Catalog, you are also given the ability to create your own lists so that you can select from pre-defined values. This is a valuable tool to improve the quality and integrity of data input.

Catalog is simply the perfect fit for sites that need a directory of products, services, places ... anything that needs to be put "in a box" so to speak.

And combined with the Web services support provided by Joomla!™ it's also possible to integrate Catalog with other business systems, such as inventory management, which may have poor or non-existent user interfaces for the web.
