Solution Profile: Techinfocenter

Posted November 07, 2008

Techinfocenter is a research and marketing firm specializing in Electronic Content Management (ECM).  They offer free research and product/software reviews and analysis pertaining to the ECM industry.  We caught up with Jim Madden about how JXtended helped empower their web site.

JX: What products are you using on your site?

JM: We are currently using Magazine, Control, Comments and Reports.

JX: What problems did using them solve, or how did they allow you to do things that you couldn't do with Joomla itself or other products?

JM: The extension we use the most, and which has solved our biggest problem, is Magazine.  The problem it solved is the issue of one to many, meaning one article needing to be found in multiple locations on our site without having to recreate the article in multiple locations.  This functionality is not build into the standard Joomla! system.  There are many products and companies we write about that fall within multiple categories of ECM and this has really assisted us in publishing and organizing our content.  It's been a real time saver and changed the way I developed the hierarchy of our site.  The sections/categories are also a great way to simply keep track of articles even if they don't get published.

Comments is a nice add on for quickly getting feedback from our readers.  We will be implementing the Control very soon, but so far that looks like it will be very useful for controlling access to certain parts of our website that are for paying customers.

I've only played with Reports a little, but I really like it's flexibility and look forward to whipping up some of my own reports.

In short these extensions have been a life saver for us both in time and money and from the start they've worked great.  We are very happy to be using JXtended's software.

JX: So how did you find out about JXtended?

JM: Our website is built on the Joomla! framework, so I found JXtended through the Joomla! extensions.  When I read that JXtended had a hand in developing Joomla! I knew their software would be a good fit for us.

JX: To finish off, where are you headed in the future with your website?

JM: In the not too distant future we are looking to help our site audience make purchasing decision by offering product feature function comparison tools.  We may also be branching out and researching other technologies.
