JXtended Finder 1.1.1 Beta 2 Available
JXtended Finder 1.1.1 Beta 2 for Joomla is now available for subscribers to download. This version includes a prototype search plugin for Virtuemart products as well as other new features and bug fixes.
Following is the complete changelog for this version compared with 1.1.0 stable.
- New plugin to search Virtuemart Products.
- New administrator About page showing changelog, index stats and database upgrades.
- Fixed date searching in Docman documents, Joomla articles, Magazine articles and issues.
- Fixed translation of strings in the maps view.
- Fixed bug caused by nulls being returned into a call to unserialise.
- Fixed invalid characters in feeds.
- Fixed invalid url in feeds.
- Fixed DOCman links not being removed when document deleted.
The most exciting part of this release is the new plugin to search Virtuemart products. You can see the results in the following screenshot (all the descriptions are the same because that is what is in the Virtuemart sample data).
Please note that the Virtuemart plugin is not enabled by default. You will need to enable it in the Joomla Plugin Manager and then re-index your site from the Finder Administrator page. The plugin is also not yet aware of changes to product made using the virtuemart interface. This will be included in the next version. If you make changes to the product title or text in Virtuemart, you need to re-index your site each time.
The plugin also cross-maps the product category and manufacturer allowing you to filter on either of these two values in the Finder advanced search.
Feedback on this new feature is welcome.

Looks really nice!
Will it be possible in any future release to index pdf-files (inside remository, or just inside a sub-directory) ?
All the best.
Sounds nice. But now there is even more reason for an automatic/scheduled re-indexing. It is difficult to get administrative users to remember to index the jxFinder each time, they change either a product in Virtuemart or normal content

Hope to see this in the next release
Thanks
Joomla SEO compatibility?
A couple of requests for JXtended Finder next release:
1) Make the search module a AJAX search field! So while typing your search query a result list will be displayed to you instantly right beneath the search field.
2) Make it compatible with Nooku.
Thank you.
@Paul, we have no plan to include Remository support, but we do plan to allow indexing of PDF files within specific folders.
@Peter, we are aware of that problem and are working on several different possible solutions to make that easier and transparent.
@Gordon, I am not sure what you mean by that.
@Andrea, we are absolutely working on an AJAX based search suggestion feature much like Google's search suggest feature. As for Nooku support, since I was one of the original developers of Nooku I believe it should be fairly straightforward to allow support for Nooku. That being said, without Johan and Matthias actually releasing it such that we could do any sort of testing with it there is not a lot we can do. Feel free to donate a copy to us if you have one and we can have a look at that.
Looking good. I especially like the Virtuemart plugin.
Just a few things I've found...
I've reindexed and it's not pulling up all my labels or categories.
Also it seems to be showing unpublished articles and Virtuemart products in the search results.
The dates still don't seem to work properly - I get 0 resuts when I use the dates set to 'before' and 'after' and plenty of results when I switch them off.
I would like to see the article publish date to be a parameter.
I would also like somewhere on the serach page to explain to users that unless they accent their characters in the search term, it won't come up in the results.
Keep up the great work though. This is soooo much better than Joomla's default search.
why can not search user name?
@Grama, where would a user name result page go? If someone wanted to build a finder plugin that indexed user profiles for an extension that supported those user profiles it would be relatively easy to accomplish, but within Joomla there is no "user profile" page.
oh,you are absolutely right!
in fact,I am using an extension for online community, and was expected this "finder" to work within it;but for this need one plugin ,of course, for wich I should wait to be released or to develope it myself;
thanks for making things clear!
