Can I add to Joomla!?
Most people get to the point where they want more out of Joomla! than they get with the standard package. Joomla!™ calls these things "extensions". There are five different kinds of extensions you can add-on to Joomla!:
Templates
Templates control the look and feel of your web site - all the colors, the graphics and the layout of the various pieces of content on any given page. This page that you are looking at is controlled by a template. It sets the position of the logo and banners at the top, as well as where this text you are reading appears in relation to everything else on the page.
Components
Components do specific jobs within the Web site. The text you're reading now is controlled by an Articles Component. Other components provide features like forums, photo galleries, catalogs, directories, and so on. The possibilities are endless.
Languages
Language packs allow you to translate the Joomla! interface into a language of your choice. Language packs are available for Joomla! as well as many popular extensions.
Modules
Modules are like miniature components that allow you do display certain information in particular boxes or areas on the page. The menu above here, the menu to the right and the one on the bottom of this page are all displayed by modules. The great thing about modules is that you can control their position, appearance and ordering easily with the Joomla! Module Manager.
Plugins
Plugins are hard-working extensions that enhance what Joomla! can do underneath. You won't necessarily see plugins in action but they offer a wide range of valuable features. For example, they might protect e-mail addresses from being read by search engines, or they may allow you to use your Gmail account to login to your Joomla! site, or they may allow your users to search through the content on your Web site.
Where do I find more things to add to Joomla!?
